Those attending this year's annual meeting were treated to a presentation by Colin Light, president of the Plano Sunrise Rotary Club, on a wonderful program they have established to beautify neighborhoods and support local charitable programs at the same time.
The program entails a "subscription" where a homeowner would pay a one-time fee, and the Rotary Club will do all of the work, including adding the in-ground sleeve to hold the flag on your property, as well as placing and removing the flag on 6 holidays starting this summer and continuing into next year. The 6 days are Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot Day (9/11), Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Flag Day. There are deadlines to get into the program before each holiday, however even late for one you can still get in for the next one, and the cost is prorated for the fewer participating days.
I encourage you to participate in this program, both for your handsome contribution to the look of our neighborhood, as well as the support you'll be giving to deserving local charities. Please download the attached form (choose word doc or PDF form; please note that you'll need to log in to see it) to see all of the necessary details. Please note that the PDF is a form with fields for you to fill in electronically and print out. |

The "Ask Oncor" Open House which will be held at the Collin County Association of Realtors office located at 6821 Coit Rd (just south of Legacy Dr.) in Plano. The event will take place on May 20th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
Oncor is partnering with the Plano Chamber of Commerce and the Collin County Association of Realtors for a community event which will have interactive exhibits and educational material on saving energy, how to use powertochoose.org, how Oncor keeps the lights on, and provide you the opportunity to ask questions that impact you and your family.
Attached is a PDF flyer for the Ask Oncor event.
====================
Also attached is a PDF of a news release concerning Oncor's adoption of the new 811 digging number, which Oncor is using now instead of Dig Tess. 811 is a national number designated by the Federal Communications Commission for homeowners and professional excavators to call before digging. The 1-800-DIG-TESS phone number will continue to work.
So if you're thinking about digging in your yard, you're going to want to call this number. The last thing you want to do is get the unexpected tingle associated with hitting an underground electric line! |

I noticed that some people are starting to do some spring maintainance on their lawns including getting down on hands and knees and pulling weeds. I used to do this myself and it's a losing fight. I tried 5 or 6 weed killers but they had little effect.
I was finally advised to use a weed killer containing the chemical MSMA. It was recommended by my landscape guy after I asked him about all the weeds I had in the lawn. He looked at the 5 or 6 other weed killers I had in the garage and he said that they were just "feeding the weeds"! It's called "GREEN LIGHT CRABGRASS KILLER", and I got it at LOWE's. It has MSMA in big letters on the bottle. It's the only one I found that has MSMA in it. I got it last year but I assume that they still carry it. It's really good stuff. I tried it and it worked like a charm. Virtually every weed was gone in a few days. After that a slight spot touch-up occasionally will keep the lawn pretty much weed fre.
WORD OF WARNING - MSMA is intended for use on Bermuda and Zoysia grasses only - IT WILL KILL ST AUGUSTINE ON CONTACT. |
